Program Description

The training takes place on three weekends spaced approximately one month apart for a total of 48 "classroom" hours. No traveling is required; we will convene on the phone by means of conference calls. The total cost of the program is $1250. Between weekends candidates participate in the IP Intern program, and stay in contact on the private IP Therapist Internet Bulletin Board, where we discuss our experiences and get ongoing supervision from John. We will be working in small groups of 6 to 10 trainees. John personally leads the entire training.

It has been found that working on the phone, while somewhat different from in-person work, is without question equally effective, and offers enormous flexibility and convenience that works well with this program; the energetic transmission that is the essence of IP is not limited by space.

Training on the phone will also prepare you for working with clients on the phone, which may constitute a significant portion of your client base, since certified counselors will be posted on the eEC website and may be contacted by anyone in the world who wants IP counseling, especially at this point in time when we do not have many certified counselors out there with the program still young. Many of you from the UK, Australia and other countries have shown an interest in training. This is now possible.

Prerequisites

Previous training, academic degrees, or other professional credentials are not required for acceptance or success in the program. A strong motivation to do the work, natural aptitude, considerable life experience, and/or a solid spiritual practice are more relevant. Careful study of Emotional Clearing by John Ruskan (Random House 2000 hardcover edition or R. Wyler & Co. 2003 paperback edition) is required for training.

Internship

Between training weekends you will give and receive Emotional Clearing sessions with other interns and clients. You will not only be undergoing training but the sessions you receive will provide a huge boost to your personal process. You can expect to be involved with a minimum of three sessions per week for ten weeks, for a total of 30 sessions:

10 EC sessions giving to an intern (minimum)
10 EC sessions receiving from an intern (minimum)
10 EC sessions giving to a client (minimum)

Your intern time commitment will be approximately four to five hours per week, including counseling sessions and participating on the bulletin board. Intern sessions will most likely be on the phone, but your client sessions should be in-person to round out your training.

As an intern you will not be charging clients, except for a room fee. You will ask clients for their consent to record sessions on audio cassette, advising them that only one or two other persons will hear the tape. Listening later to your own sessions, and getting feedback on them from other interns and John will be an invaluable learning aid. Interns with an ongoing counseling practice may reduce rates instead of not charging; this will be left to the intern's discretion. Brief documentation of all sessions must be submitted before certification will be granted. Documentation need only be a few lines that includes the name of client, date, and what transpired.

Interns are encouraged to take part in client work and exchange therapy sessions with each other beyond the minimum requirement to enhance skills and personal growth; this is a valuable opportunity that should not be missed.

Interns are strongly encouraged to maintain a dedicated personal practice at home during the entire internship period. Network contact with other interns, by phone and on the bulletin board, will provide the support that can be vital to maintain the practice and feedback for getting past any blocks that may occur. Experiencing a personal practice with such support is invaluable in training, not only for growth, but because the therapist will be acting as the support for clients who will similarly be encouraged to maintain a dedicated personal practice while undergoing counseling.

Bulletin Board

A private bulletin board for IP therapists and interns only is set up on the internet. The bulletin board has proven to be an invaluable asset to training, allowing a solid feeling of community for the intern group to develop. Any questions, experiences, or other sharings that anyone would like to offer are posted here for everyone's benefit. John usually responds to queries, but everyone is welcome to enter the discussion. Also posted here are reviews of taped sessions, both by John and interns, so that everyone may learn from them.

Session reviews

During the intern program, you will receive a total of four reviews of your taped client sessions - three from other interns, and one from John. You will find that after only a brief training, other interns will be able to give you significant feedback about your blind spots in running a session. John's session reviews are detailed, and are an invaluable learning experience to fine-tune your technique.

Conferencing

Trainings take place via telephone conference call - no traveling is required. Experience has shown these trainings to be in no way limited but, on the contrary, that phone flexibility has added to the effectiveness of the training.

In our work, it is ideal to spend two days in an intensive training, and then to break for a month while you apply what you have learned. In the past, when we traveled to trainings, they usually lasted four days at least in order to take advantage of the traveling, and a regular problem was maintaining energy for the full period. After two days, everyone starts to get tired, compounded by the stress of traveling, and learning is less effective. Being able to come together three times, two days each, is ideal. You apply and practice what you have learned, and then it's time to meet again to build further.

The phone meetings themselves are intimate, and you will soon lose any apprehension you might have about not being there "in person." Photos of all participants are posted on a private page on the web to provide a visual link, and we quickly get to know each other. We take frequent breaks, and the time goes by amazingly fast. Since our groups are small, and you continue to work with each other during the intern program, a genuine bonding occurs. This bonding can be extended into permanent professional relationships with your fellow interns, as well as the community of IP Therapists, as you maintain contact on the private internet IP Therapist bulletin board.

To connect for the conference call, you dial a central number in the US. Everyone can hear and be heard by everyone else. With modern equipment, voice clarity is excellent. You pay the normal rate for a long distance call, which is available for 5 cents per minute (under 10 cents per minute international).

Much time during the training is spent in groups of two or three, practicing with each other what has just been covered. This is easily accomplished by shifting to other "rooms" where only the two or three participants are present, except for John who rotates from group to group. After the exercise is complete, everyone again assembles in the main room for discussion and feedback.

You must acquire a telephone headset - essential for long periods on the phone - preferably of good quality that covers both ears. This is key to making the phone format comfortable and workable. There's no way you can get through the training and intern phone work with a regular handset. Speakerphones have been proven to also be unsatisfactory - they sound too distant. The headset will be useful after training when it is likely you will get requests for telephone counseling.

Hours

Hours of the weekends will be from 10 AM to 7 PM Eastern time with an hour break for lunch. Please keep your weekend free of any other plans. You must attend all hours of the weekend sessions to be certified. There will be no exceptions. If you cannot attend all hours, you will have to wait for a later training to complete.

Cost

The total cost of the program is $1250 (U.S. dollars). Payment must be received in full (credit card, personal check or international money order) before your reservation will be firm and before materials will be sent out. It is not possible to pay in installments. There will be no exceptions. Other expenses include phone calls, acquiring a telephone headset, and cassette taping equipment.

Included in the program:
48 training hours with John
30 Intern sessions (minimum)
Lifetime posting of your name on the www.eEC website for client referrals.
A two page promotional brochure you may distribute to attract clients.

Registration

Please send your email registration as early as possible. A $35 late charge will be applied to registrations received or deposits taken later than two weeks prior to the start date if space is still available.

To register, fill out the Registration Form. The easiest way is to copy the form from the web and paste into an email, fill in the info and send. If you can't copy and paste the form, you can just provide the information without the form.

Email to: jrusk@eEC.com
Put "EC TRAINING" in the subject line.

You will be notified by email when your registration is received. You will be asked then for a credit card number to which a deposit of $250 may be made. After the deposit is received, John will personally speak with you on the phone about the program and answer any questions you may have. The remainder of the payment will be due no later than 14 days before the start of the program.

Refunds

You have 24 hours after talking with John to cancel for a full refund if it becomes apparent from your talk that the training is not for you. After that, there will be no refunds for any reason. This is normal in professional training programs. In our small group we have reserved a place for you; we have shipped out materials; we know it is to your advantage to finish the training; and we depend upon you to be there to maintain a sufficient number in the group for significant group interaction. However, if we are unable to hold the training, full refunds will be made.

Certification

Upon successful completion, you become a Certified Integrative Processing Therapist (CIPT), with the right to advertise with the Integrative Processing / Emotional Clearing logo and to conduct individual IP Therapy / Emotional Clearing sessions within the legal framework for which you are qualified in your state. IP certification does not satisfy any state requirement for licensing as a psychotherapist, although at present anyone may work in most states without licensing as a counselor or facilitator. All CIPTs are required to know the law in their own state and to strictly abide by it.

Participation in the program does not guarantee certification, but only rarely will a participant be denied certification. If certification is withheld, the participant will be advised of the reason; there will be no refund for any programs taken.

Certification may be revoked at any time for any reason including behavior that may legally jeopardize The Institute for Integrative Processing, or for gross incompetence or misconduct.

Internet Contact

All normal communication with the Institute and John outside the weekend conferences take place via email and the private bulletin board on the www.eEC website. You must have easy access to these in order to participate in the program. There is no additional literature that will be sent out regarding the program; all info is posted here at the www.eEC website.

Follow Up

In order to maintain and expand skills, it is probable that other weekend trainings / supervision will be offered by John. At this point, these trainings are optional.
